- Federico Valverde struck late to secure big win over Athletic Club on Sunday
- Game arrives before Copa del Rey final

Real Madrid have a tricky La Liga test in midweek against Getafe before they face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side kept themselves in title contention at the weekend by matching Barca’s dramatic comeback against Celta Vigo with a 1-0 victory over Athletic Club. Madrid were dominant against a weakened Athletic side, but didn’t break through until Federico Valverde breached Unai Simon’s defences with a thunderous volley in stoppage time.
Los Blancos remain four points behind the leaders with a La Liga Clasico still to be played. They’ll be hoping Mallorca do them a favour on Tuesday night.
However, they must navigate an awkward fixture themselves to stay in contention. While Madrid have dominated their recent duels with Getafe, Jose Bordalas’ side have once again proven to be nightmare opposition for La Liga’s best this term.
They’re a nasty outfit capable of disrupting any side’s rhythm, especially at home, and only two teams in La Liga boast superior defensive records. Bordalas’ men are 12th and have lost back-to-back games, though.
Here is 90min’s guide to Wednesday night’s La Liga duel.

Getafe team news

There have been red cards galore in Getafe’s recent La Liga outings, but only Christantus Uche is serving a suspension for the hosts on Wednesday night.
Diego Rico can return to Bordalas’ XI after serving his ban, and Juan Bernat, who’s on loan from Villarreal, is a contender to come back into the team.

Real Madrid team news

Kylian Mbappe is available to return from a lenient suspension, but he’s still suffering with the knock to the ankle he took against Arsenal last week. While the Frenchman is back in team training with Ferland Mendy, the forward is set to be preserved for the Copa del Rey final.
While victory on Saturday won’t save his job, Ancelotti will undoubtedly prioritise the Copa del Rey final. As a result, there could be rests for Antonio Rudiger, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior on Wednesday.
Brahim Diaz and Lucas Vazquez should return to the manager’s XI, with Endrick an option to mitigate Mbappe’s absence after he appeared off the bench on Sunday.
Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal remain out of action.

Getafe vs Real Madrid score prediction
While Madrid should take confidence from their recent superiority in head-to-head duels with Bordalas’ rugged outfit, this has the makings of a banana skin for the visitors.
Ancelotti’s going to rest and rotate ahead of the Copa del Rey final, and although Getafe are playing for little in mid-table, they love meddling with the division’s aristocracy.
The Coliseum is bound to be fervent under the lights, and this Madrid team, one which has proven to be fallible many a time this term, could struggle.
Prediction: Getafe 1-1 Real Madrid
