A potentially re-emboldened Chelsea kick-off the weekend’s Premier League action as they welcome Everton to Stamford Bridge.

A feeling of discontent has prevailed over west London in recent weeks, but the Blues helped to dismiss some of that ill-feeling by staging a crucial late comeback at Fulham last weekend. Pedro Neto struck a fierce winner in stoppage-time to ensure Enzo Maresca’s side remained well in the mix to claim a Champions League spot.

The hosts head into this one sixth in the table and two points adrift of fifth. With visits to Newcastle and Nottingham Forest upcoming, this is a game Chelsea must win.

Everton, however, have proven to be stiff opposition under David Moyes. Last weekend, they suffered their first defeat at Goodison Park in the Premier League since Moyes oversaw a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on his second Toffees managerial bow. Manchester City rallied late to claim a 2-0 win on Merseyside.

The Toffees impressively won at the City Ground last time out on their travels, and have long been confirmed as a top-flight outfit for 2025/26. They currently occupy 13th spot in the league table.

Here is 90min’s guide to the clash.

Young Tyrique George may well have played his way into Chelsea’s Premier League XI, and he could replace Noni Madueke in Maresca’s starting lineup on Saturday. Craven Cottage match-winner Pedro Neto will start on the opposite flank.

The Blues are still without star centre-back Wesley Fofana, while Malo Gusto out with a hamstring injury sustained at Fulham last week. Reece James should thus retain his place at right-back.

Gabriel Slonina, Marc Guiu and Omari Kellyman are also out injured for the hosts.

Everton team news

James TarkowskiJames Tarkowski

James Tarkowski suffered a hamstring injury in Everton’s defeat to Manchester City last week, so we could see Michael Keane start alongside Jarrad Branthwaite with Jake O’Brien staying at right-back.

Armando Broja will miss out against his parent club, opening the door for Beto to return to Moyes’ lineup.

Jesper Lindstrom and Orel Mangala won’t play again this season.

Everton predicted lineup vs Chelsea

Everton predicted lineup vs Chelsea (4-4-1-1): Pickford; O’Brien, Keane, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Harrison, Garner, Gueye, Ndiaye; Doucoure; Beto.

Chelsea vs Everton score prediction

Tarkowski’s likely absence is a big blow for the visitors, who aren’t playing for all that much and will be facing up against a Chelsea team aiming to build on the momentum gained from Craven Cottage.

Maresca may not be maximising the talents of the attacking arsenal at his disposal, but his side is generally stable and capable of taming Everton’s vastly improved threat under Moyes. Set-pieces could be an issue, and the Bridge could get nervy if the Toffees dig their heels in.

Given the tricky away fixtures that are on the horizon, we’ll back the Blues to give themselves a chance by winning a cagey affair on Saturday.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Everton
