Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to provide their sternest effort in denying Liverpool’s title celebration on Sunday afternoon as they visit Anfield just days before the start of their Europa League semi-final.
Spurs’ domestic campaign has long been rendered irrelevant, and they were subject to another Premier League defeat on Monday night. Ange Postecoglou’s side didn’t play particularly well against Nottingham Forest, falling 2-0 behind early on, yet they created more than enough to win the game and move up to the lofty heights of 13th.
Liverpool require just a point this weekend to be crowned champions, and Postecoglou’s preservation of stars should make the Reds’ task simpler.
Here’s how Spurs could line up at Anfield on Sunday.
Tottenham predicted lineup vs Liverpool (4-3-3)

GK: Guglielmo Vicario – The manager’s bound to rotate, but Vicario, who’s had a tough few weeks, should retain his place.
RB: Pedro Porro – Porro has come on strong in recent outings, especially in possession, and Ange will continue to rely on him this weekend ahead of the semi-final.
CB: Kevin Danso – Transfer-linked Cristian Romero played 45 minutes with his usual partner on Monday night, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if both of Spurs’ starters are wrapped in cotton wool this weekend. Danso is an able deputy.
CB: Ben Davies – Spurs supporters will be happy to see Micky van de Ven absent on Sunday and Davies in the team. The Dutchman has a huge role to play in Europe, and his vulnerable hamstrings don’t need to be risked at Anfield.
LB: Djed Spence – Destiny Udogie was brilliant in both games against Eintracht Frankfurt and is a shoo-in to start on Thursday. Thus, Spence, who started on Monday, will feature again down the left.
CM: Yves Bissouma – Spurs’ forgotten man could be drafted in from the cold to start in a mightily difficult fixture. Rodrigo Bentancur has enjoyed a run in the side and will return for the semi-final. Fans would love to see Archie Gray at the base of midfield.
CM: Pape Sarr – Sarr was among Spurs’ better performers against Forest, but he’s likely to be a bench option in the semi-final. The tireless Senegalese international will match up against Liverpool’s impressive engine room on Sunday.
CM: James Maddison – Maddison could enjoy an hour of action this weekend in a bid to keep him fresh.
RW: Brennan Johnson – It’s a toss-up down the flanks, and Postecoglou might not yet be sure who’ll start both legs of the semi-final. Johnson played just a few minutes against his former club, and could be used from the outset here given Liverpool’s aggressive defensive line.
ST: Richarlison – Richarlison certainly frustrated last time out, but perseverance eventually got him on the scoresheet. He’s also scored on his previous two visits to Anfield.
LW: Mathys Tel – The boss will be hopeful that Son Heung-min is fit for Thursday’s first leg, but Tel has doubtlessly shown flashes and he was excellent in the first half against Forest despite slicing a big chance. With Son expected to miss out again through injury, the Frenchman should continue down the left.
